PHOTOS FROM MUSTMEG.................AN APPALACHIAN FOLK TALE
Mustmeg sets out on a journey with her two mean sisters. The girls mother has died. They have run all out of cabbages. Their world looks pretty dark and gets darker before they finally reach the Sunnyside of Life.

Mustmeg's sisters Poll and Betts have inherited the shack and the cabbage patch. Mustmeg inherits a case knife.

On the journey as the girls venture deeper and deeper into the dark mountains they encounter a wolf, a witcher woman, an evil dog, a giant man and a king. Mustmeg uses her quick wits and her case knife to get the girls out of all sorts of trouble.

Ruthanne E. Ankney ....as Mustmag.

The Appalachian folk tale uses traditional and non-traditional shadow puppetry, Appalachian music and dance.

"Why, look who it is Mustmag, the little yellow haired girl!"

"How did I get myself across the river did you say? Well now Mr. Giant man let's see. Find yourself a nice big rock. The bigger the better. That's a good one. Now take the end of your rope and get it up around your neck like this. Tie it around there real tight. Now get the other end of the rope and tie it around the rock. That's it. Now take that rock and skim it right across the river. That's it. Pick it up and toss it there a good one. There ya go. That should do it!"
Frank Burns as the Giant Man.
